Cheetah vs. Usain Bolt (video)

Cheetahs claws

Unlike other big cats, cheetahs claws do not draw back into their paws.  Like dogs, cheetahs claws stay out for better traction.

Cheetahs Fur

http://www.african-safari-pictures.com/king-cheetah-pictures.html

Pictured above, King cheetah (LEFT); Common cheetah (RIGHT).

Most cheetahs have a tan coat with black spots that are round or shaped like an oval. Some cheetahs have
spots that come together to make stripes and that cheetah is called a king cheetah. Both these cheetahs have tear stripes on each side of their nose.  Tear stripes are black stripes on the sides of their nose.

Endangered Animals

The  most endangered cat is the cheetah.  This is because of many reasons.  Cheetahs can run up to 70 mph, right?  That's great, but it has a bad side to it. When the cheetah is running after its prey, they get very tired with such high speed running.  So, when they get done running, they are super exhausted making them easy to catch.  Also, when a mother cheetah has cubs, they rely on her to take care of them. So, when the mother goes hunting, she's leaving her cubs in the open which makes it easy to hunt her babies.  Many animals would be happy to catch the cubs.

Cheetah Vision

http://www.oregonzoo.org/gallery/tags/cheetah

Cheetahs have great vision during the day time.
Their vision is so great that they can see as far as 3 miles away.  Interestingly, their night vision is not so good.

Fastest Land Animal

http://theruniverse.com/2012/07/running-tips-from-cheetahs/
Cheetahs are the world fastest land animal.  Cheetahs can run 70 mph and that's as fast as the cars go on the highway.  They can reach their highest speed in 3 seconds.  In just one stride, cheetahs are able to travel 23 to 26 feet at their highest speed.  The cheetahs feet only touches the ground twice in one stride.

DID YOU KNOW...

When cheetahs are running, they use their tails to steer and turn kind of like a car.

Also, it is important that cheetahs don't get too hot with such high speed running.

Cheetah Cubs

http://1funny.com/cheetah-cubs/
Before giving birth to their cubs, cheetahs find a nest in a super quit place, hidden by tall grass or bunched up rocks.  The cheetah usually has 2 to 8 cubs per litter, but cubs are often the target of other animals and most of them don't live past the first year. :(  The little cubs completely depend on their mother to protect them and get them food.  Eventually the cubs learn how to hunt by watching their mother hunt all the time.

DID YOU KNOW...
The tiny little cubs can weigh as small as 8 ounces.  That's really small. :)

What Cheetahs Eat

Cheetahs have to hunt their food. Can you guess what their favorite food is?

 -- Gazelles!

They also eat antelopes, wild pigs, warthogs, and rabbits.  Cheetahs sneak up on their prey and when they get close to the prey, it breaks into a fast run.  Cheetahs use their front paws to trip the animal up.  Cheetahs kill their prey by biting their neck and suffocating it.

An interesting fact -- Cheetahs only have to drink water every three to four days. Humans could not survive that long without water!
